Question 227649
The Jurassic Zoo charges $8 for each adult and $4 for each child. Total bill for the 201 people was $964. How many children were at the zoo?

Step 1. Let x be the number of tickets sold to children

Step 2. Let 201-x be the number of tickets sold to adults

Step 3. Let 4x be the dollar value of sold children tickets.

Step 4. Let 8(201-x) be the dollar value of sold adult tickets.

Step 5. Then, 4x+8(201-x)=964 be the total dollar value of sold tickets.

Step 6. Solving yields the following steps

*[invoke explain_simplification "4x+8(201-x)=964" ]

With x=161 then 201-61=40. Check dollar value 4*161+8*40= 644+320=964 which is a true statement.

Step 7. ANSWER: The number of children tickets sold is 161.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
