Question 227123
The area of a rectangle is equal to
it's length multiplied by it's width.
In algebra, you can use letters to
represent anything that can be expressed
as a number.
For instance, if I know a certain length is
7 meters, I can write
{{{L = 7}}} , where {{{L}}} is the length
If I know that a certain time is 2 hours,
I can write {{{T = 2}}}, where {{{T}}} is the time
------------------
As for your problem,
{{{L = 24.2}}}cm
{{{W = 14}}}cm
Now I'll call {{{A}}} the area, so
{{{A = L*W}}}
{{{A = 24.2*14}}}
{{{A = 338.8}}}
The area is 388.8 square cm
You can also figure out what the units are for your answer
by just putting units alone into the equation
{{{A = L*W}}}
{{{units = cm*cm}}} or units = square cm
If the problem was to find the volume of
a square box, the equation would be
{{{V = L*W*H}}} ,where {{{H}}} is the height of the box
{{{units = cm*cm*cm}}} or, units = cubic cm
