Question 226397
How do you solve {{{1x/3+6=-8}}}?

Step 1. Multiply by 3 to both sides of the equation

{{{3x/3+3*6=3*(-8)}}}

{{{x+18=-24}}}

Step 2. Add -18 to both sides of the equation to find x

{{{x+18+(-18)=-24+(-18)}}}

{{{x=-42}}}

Step 3.  Check solution with original equation {{{1x/3+6=-8}}}

{{{-42/3+6=-8}}}

{{{-14+6=-8}}}

{{{-8=-8}}} which is a true statement

Step 4.  ANSWER:  The solution is {{{x=-42}}}

I hope the above steps were helpful.
