Question 226286
I need help solving the equation by rewriting without a fraction and finding x

{{{x/5 - 4 = -6}}}

Step 1. Multiply by 5 to both sides of the equation to get rid of denominator.

{{{5*x/5-5*4=5*(-6)}}}

{{{x-20=-30}}}

Step 2. Add 20 to both sides of the equation to get x

{{{x-20+20=-30+20}}}

{{{x=-10}}}

Step 3.  Check solution with original equation {{{x/5 - 4 = -6}}}

{{{-10/5-4=-6}}}

{{{-2-4=-6}}}

{{{-6=-6}}} which is a true statement.

Step 4.  ANSWER:  The solution is {{{x=-10}}}

I hope the above steps were helpful.
