Question 225971
Perimeter of a rectangle. The perimeter of a rectangular backyard is 6x + 6 yards. If the width is x yards, find a binomial that represents the length.

Step 1. Perimeter P means adding up all the sides of the rectangles.

Step 2. Let L be the length and x be the width.

Step 3. Then P=x+x+L+L=2x+2L

Step 4. But P=6x+6=2x+2L. Solving for L yields the following steps:

Subtract 2x from both sides of the equation

{{{6x+6-2x=2x+2L-2x}}}

{{{4x+6=2L]]]

Divide by L to both sides of the equation

{{{4x/2+6/2=2L/2}}}

{{{2x+3=L}}}

Step 5. ANSWER.  The length of the rectangle is {{{L=2x+3}}}

I hope the above steps and explanation were helpful.
