Question 225598
One number exceeds another number by 32. The sum of the numbers is 82. What are the numbers?

Step 1. Let n be one number

Step 2. Let n+32 be the other number since it exceeds the number n by 32.

Step 3. Then n+n+32=82 since the sum of the numbers is 82.

Step 4. Solving will yield the following steps

{{{2n+32=82}}}

Subtract 32 from both sides of the equation

{{{2n+32-32=82-32}}}

{{{2n=50}}}

Divide by 2 to both sides of the equation

{{{2n/2=50/2}}}

{{{n=25}}}  Then  {{{n+32=57}}}

Step 5. ANSWER: The numbers are 25 and 57.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
