Solve the system of equations by graphing. Then Classify the system.

x+y=13
x-y= -5


Step 1.  Graph the two lines as shown below

Step 2.  Based on the graph the solution is x=4, y=9 or point (4,9)


Step 3.  Check if (4,9) satisfies the original solutin


4+9=13 which is a true statement
4-9=-5 which is a true statement


Step 4.  ANSWER:  The solution is (4,9).  So the system of equations are independent, consistent and unique.
