Question 224292
The rate at which calories are burnt is proportional to the weight of the person. 3,500 calories must be burnt off for a person to lose 1 pound.
Comment: What is the weight of this person who burns 3500 cal and thus
loses 1 pound?
-------
How many hours of walking at 4 1/2 mi/h would be needed for
a 190-pound person to lose 4 pounds?
Commetn: Good question
----------------------------------------
A 150 pound person burns 440 calories an hour walking at 4 1/2 mph
Need to burn 14,000 calories. A 150 pound person would need to walk 31.8 hours.
----------------------------------------
How do I determine how long a 190 pound person needs to walk?
I know it is less than that of a 150 pound person.
Comment How do you know that?
-------------------------------------
Comment: This problem is very confusing. It seems impossible
to properly relate weight, walking speed, and calories and
weight loss.
