Question 223628
The perimeter of a rectangle is 140 m. The length is 4 m more than twice the width. Find the dimensions.

Step 1. Perimeter P means adding up all 4 sides of a rectangle.

Step 2. Let w be the width.

Step 3. Let 2w+4 be the length since it's 4 more than twice the width

Step 4. Then, P=w+w+2w+4+2w+4=6w+8=140

*[invoke explain_simplification "6w+8=140" ]

With {{{w=22}}} and {{{2w+4=48}}}. And {{{P=2(22+48)=140}}} which is a true statement

Step 5. ANSWER: The width is 22 meters and the length is 48 meters.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
