Question 223250
Having trouble with this problem. 2a+3a-13=a+3

Step 1. Combine like terms and numbers

{{{2a+3a-13=a+3}}}

{{{(2+3)a-13=a+3}}}

{{{5a-13=a+3}}}

Step 2. Add 13 to both sides of the equation to get number on the right side.

{{{5a-13+13=a+3+13}}}

{{{5a=a+16}}}

Step 3. Subtract a to both sides of the equation to get a-terms on the left side.

{{{5a-a=a+16-a}}}

{{{4a=16}}}

Step 4. Divide 4 to both sides of the equation

{{{4a/4=16/4}}}

{{{a=4}}}

Check...{{{2a+3a-13=a+3}}}...{{{2*4+3*4-13=4+3}}}...{{{8+12-13=7}}}...{{{7=7}}} which is a true statement.

Step 5.  ANSWER:  {{{a=4}}}

I hope the above steps were helpful.
