Step 1.  Get rid of the parenthesis by distributing the negative (=-1) and combine line terms


{{{8x-6x-4=12}}}


{{{2x-4=12}}}


Step 2.  Add 4 to both sides of the equation


{{{2x-4+4=12+4}}}



{{{2x=16}}}


Step 3.  Divide 8 to both sides of the equation


{{{2x/2=16/2}}}


{{{x=8}}}


Step 4.  ANSWER.  The solution is x=8.
