Kimberly is twice as old as Ryan. In 4 years, she will be 7 years older than Ryan. How old is Kimberly now?


Step 1.  Let x be the age of Ryan


Step 2.  Let 2x be the age of Kimberly


Step 3.  Let x+4 be the age of Ryan in 4 years


Step 4.  Let 2x+4 be the age of Kimberly in 4 years.


Step 5.  2x+4=x+4+7 since Kimberly will be 7 years older than Ryan in four years.


Step 6.  Solving the equation in Step 5 yields the following steps

Step 7.  ANSWER:  Kimberly is 14 years old.
