Question 221302
Fruit salad which costs $3/lb is made by combining sliced peaches which cost $2/lb with sliced bananas which cost $6/lb. Find the number of lb of sliced peaches and sliced bananas required to make 12 lb of fruit salad.
so we will call x number of lbs of sliced peaches and y number of lbs of sliced bananas
{{{2x+6y=12*3}}}
{{{x+y=12}}} now we have to solve this system of equations
{{{x=12-y}}}
{{{2(12-y)+6y=12*3}}}
{{{24-2y+6y=36}}}
{{{24+4y=36}}}
{{{4y=36-24}}}
{{{4y=12}}} divide both sides by 4
{{{y=3}}} so since we said earlier that x=12-y then
{{{x=12-3}}}
{{{x=9}}}
so we need 9 lbs of peaches and 3 lbs of bananas
