These are all simple Algebra equations, but you're gonna be using these skills in just about everything you do in Algebra.  So, what you wanna do to solve these is get the variable alone.  The variable is the letter.  To get the variable alone all you're going to be doing in these problems is multiplying, dividing, adding, and/or subtracting.  Some examples...

1) w-8=8   w=16
Add 8 to cancel out the 8 on the left side and add it to the right side's 8.
((Remember, whatever you do to one side, add subtract divide, you have to do it to the other.))

2) d3=5   d=5/3
Divide by three on both sides.  The 3 will cancel out on
the left side and you'll be left with 5/3 which you may or may not have to simplify, depending on what the directions say.

3) 8n=28+28   8n=56   n=7 
This is just like the question above except 
you're going to add the two 28s together.
