Question 218134
Two times the reciprocal of a number equals 32 times the reciprocal of 40. find the number.

Step 1. Let x be the number and 1/x be the reciprocal.

Step 2. Let 2/x be two times the reciprocal.

Stpe 3. Let 1/40 be the reciprocal of 40.

Step 4. Then 2/x=32/40 since two times the reciprocal of a number equals 32 times the reciprocal of 40

Step 5. Solving yields the following steps:

{{{2/x=32/40=4/5}}}

Multiply 5x/4 to both sides of the equation to get x in numerator and to simplify.

{{{(5x/4)*(2/x)=(5x/4)*(4/5)}}}

{{{10/4=x}}}

{{{x=5/2}}}

Step 6. ANSWER: The number is 5/2.

I hope the above steps and explanation were helpful.
