Question 217457
Can you please help me solve this equation: {{{-3(x+y)+7(2x+1)}}}

I tried to work it out on my own and this is what I worked out:

-3x-3y+14x+7
-3y+11x+7

That's all I got so far. If you could help me I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you very much! Morgan

Hi Morgan,

My guess of the problem is that you want to solve for y as a function of x.

What you have so far is correct. So let's set the equation = 0 in order to get y.

{{{-3y+11x+7 =0}}}

Now add 3y to both sides to get y-terms on the right side.

{{{-3y+11x+7+3y=3y}}}

{{{11x+7=3y}}}

Now divide by 3 to both sides of the equation

{{{11x/3+7/3=3y/3}}}

{{{11x/3+7/3=y}}} ANSWER if the problem is to solve for y.

We now have y as a function of x which is a line.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
