Question 216551
A helicopter drops a supply package from an altitude of 625 ft. How long is the package in the air?

Step 1. The equation for this problem is {{{h=(1/2)*gt^2}}} where

g is the acceleration given as 32 ft/sec^2 and h is the height.

Step 2.  Here, h=625 and g=32 ft/sec^2.

Step 3.  Rearrange {{{h=(1/2)gt^2}}}

Multiply 2/g to both sides:

{{{(2/g)*h=(2/g)*(1/2)gt^2}}}

{{{2*h/g=t^2}}}

{{{t^2=2*625/32}}}

{{{t^2=39.0625}}}

{{{t=6.25}}} seconds

Step 4. ANSWER. The package is in the air for 6.25 seconds.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
