Question 215731
The perimeter of a rectangle is 98m. The length is 10m more than twice the width. Find the dimensions?
What is the length?
What is the width?

Step 1. Let w be the width and 2w be twice the width

Step 2. Let 2w+10 be the length since it's 10m more than twice the width

Step 3. Perimeter P is when you add up all 4 sides or {{{P=w+w+2w+10+2w+10=6w+20=98}}}. Now {{{6w=78}}} or {{{w=13}}} m. Then the length is 2w+10=36 and P=13+13+36+36=98 m...which is a true statement.

Step 4. ANSWER. The width is 13 m and the length is 36 m.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
