Question 215571
The ratio of men to women at a certain company is 3:5 . How many male employees does the company have if there are 112 employees?

Step 1. Let {{{3/5=males/females=x/y }}}where x is the number of males and y is the number of females.

Step 2.  If {{{3/5=x/y}}}, then this leads to {{{3y=5x}}} or {{{y=5x/3}}}

Step 3. Given, {{{x+y=112}}}, then {{{x+5x/3=112}}}. Solving for x yields the following steps:

Multiply 3 to both sides of equation to get rid of denominator

{{{3*(x+5x)/3=3*112}}}

{{{3*(x+5x/3)=3*112}}}

{{{3x+5x=336}}}

{{{8x=336}}}

Divide by 8 to both sides of the equation

{{{8x/8=336/8}}}

{{{x=42}}}

Step 4. There are 42 males and 70 females as employees.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
