Question 215491
The second side of a triangle is twice the first side, and the third side is 10 more than the second. the perimeter is 70 ft. Find the sides of the triangle.

Step 1. Let x be the length of the first side.

Step 2. Let 2x be the length of the second side since the second side of a triangle is twice the first side.

Step 3. Let 2x+10 be the length of the third side since the third side is 10 more than the second.

Step 2. Perimeter P is when you add the three sides of the triangle.

Step 3.  Then {{{P=x+2x+2x+10=5x+10=70}}} or {{{5x=60}}}.  Then {{{x=12}}}

With x=12, then 2x=24 and 2x+10=34. Check Perimeter P=12+24+34=70 which is a true statement.

Step 4. ANSWER. The sides are 12, 24, and 34 feet.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
