Question 215445
A rectangle is 6 times as long as it is wide. The perimeter is 100 cm. Find the dimensions of the rectangle. Round to the nearest tenth if necessary.

Step 1. Let w be the width and 6w is the length.

Step 2. Perimeter P means adding up all the 4 sides of the rectangle. Then,

{{{P=100=w+w+6w+6w=14w}}}

{{{100/14=14w/14}}}

{{{w=100/14=7.1}}}

With w=7.14, then 6w=42.9

Step 3. The dimensions of the rectangle are 7.1 cm and 42.9 cm.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
