Question 214083
If four times the sum of a number and 5 is divided by 3, the result is 16.

Step 1. Let x be the number.

Step 2. {{{4(x+5)/3}}} Four times the number and 5 is divided by 3

Step 3.  {{{4(x+5)/3=16}}}  The result is 16

Step 4. Multiply by 3 to both sides of equation to get rid of denominator

{{{3*4*(x+5)/3=3*16}}}

{{{4x+20=48}}}

Step 5. Subtract 20 from both sides of equation

{{{4x+20-20=48-20}}}

{{{4x=28}}}

Step 6. Divide by 4 to both sides of equation

{{{4x/4=28/4}}}

{{{x=7}}}

Step 7  ANSWER is x=7.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
