Question 28867
what is an exponent?
start with that
If you really get that down good, you'll do better
It just means- how many times do I multiply something by itself
{{{2*2*2*2*2*2 = 2^6}}}
{{{x*x*x*x*x = x^5}}}
Then ask- how do I write {{{1 / (2*2*2*2*2*2)}}}
you could calculate it with a calculator or in your head, but you
just want to write it with an exponent
----------------
this is a fact-just accept it
{{{1 / (2*2*2*2*2*2) = 2^(-6)}}}
then it's easy to multiply numbers with exponents
look at this
{{{(1 / (2*2*2*2*2*2)) * (2*2*2*2*2*2) = 1}}}
thats easy to see
{{{(1 / anything) * anything = 1}}}
but looking back at what I just said, {{{2^6 * 2^(-6)}}} must = 1
that's true
just add the exponents {{{2^6 * 2^(-6) = 2^(6-6) = 2^0 = 1}}}
that's another rule- anything like {{{2^0}}} or {{{x^0}}} or
anything with a zero exponent = 1

Always, always try to improve your understanding first
Never, never try to memorize first- that can come later
Third- it's really just a game- find a way to make it fun
good luck- doing your best is the real success
