Question 199979
A tight end can run the 100 yard dash in 12 seconds.
 A defensive back can do it in 10 seconds.
The tight end catches a pass at his own 20 yard line with the defensive back at the 15 yard line.
If no other players are near by at what yard line will the defensive back catch up to the tight end?
:
The T.E runs: 100/12 = 8.33 yds/sec
The D.B.runs: 100/10 = 10 yds/sec
:
Let t = time in seconds when the D.B. catches the T.E.
10t + 15 = 8.33 + 20
10t - 8.33t = 20 - 15
1.67t = 5
t = {{{5/1.67}}}
t = 3 seconds
:
Find the distance the T.E runs in 3 sec:
(8.33 * 3) = 25 yds
yard line: 20 + 25 = 45 yd line
:
Find the distance the D.B. runs in 3 sec
10 * 3 = 30 yds
yard line: 15 + 30 = 45 yd line also
:
we can say the T.E. will be caught at his own 45 yd line
