Question 27358
Solve the parabola equation for (x-1)^2 as follows:
Multiply through be "4" to get:
4y-4=(x-1)^2
Substitute that into the circle equation to get:
4y-4+y^2=8
y^2+4y-12=0
(y+6)(y-2)=0
y=-6 or y=2
Plug those values into the original circle equation one
at a time:
If y=-6 then (x-1)^2+36=8
Then (x-1)^2=-28
This has no Real number solution so forget it.
If y=2 then (x-1)^2+4=8
(x-1)^2=4
So, x-1=2 or x-1=-2
x=3 or x=-1
Solutions: (3,2) (-1,2)
