Question 194319
A population is increasing at 6% per year and is now at 12,000. If it continues to increase at the same rate, approximately how long will it take to reach 15,000? Round to the nearest tenth of a year.
I figured it out to be 4.2 years. Am I right?
:
That's not what I got, here's how I would do it:
:
Let t = no. of yrs for this to happen
:
12000(1.06^t) = 15000
1.06^t = {{{15000/12000}}}
1.06^t = 1.25
Using logs
t*log(1.06) = log(1.25)
:
.0253t = .0969
t = {{{.0969/.0253}}}
t = 3.83 ~ 3.8 yrs

;
Check solution on calc
enter: 12000 * 1.06^3.83 = 15000
