Question 190566
Graph the following equation. Identify the values of a, b, c, as well as the major and minor axes. Calculate the eccentricity e.
x^2/5^2 + y^2/3^2=1
I worked it out to:
c=4
eccentricity is c/a=4/5
Question: How do I identify the major and minor axes?
Also, am I correct thus far?
-----------------------------------------
a = 5; b = 3; c = 4
----
The center is at the origin.
The major axis is the horizontal distance from x=-5 to x=+5
----------------------------------------
The minor axis is the vertical distance from y= -3 to y=+3
----------------------------------------
e = c/a = 4/5

You are correct so far.
