Question 185394
Area is measured in square units, volume in cubic units. For instance, flooring is measured in square feet. Car trunk capacity is can be measured in cubic inches.

So, let's assume you have a side in an original square and cube that is 1 foot.
The original area is 1*1 = 1 square foot
The volume is 1*1*1 = 1 cubic foot

If the side is doubled to 2 feet, then the
new area = 2 *2 = 4 square feet. Or 4 times greater
New volume is 2*2*2 = 8 cubic feet. Or 8 times greater

No matter what length you use as your starting point, the ratio is always
4X for area and 8x for volume
