Question 185342
I am having some trouble understanding slopes. I know that M stands for slope, and that slope is a number that tells us how steep a line is and if it is decreasing or inceasing. I dont however, know how to solve something like this: find slope of the line that passes through (1,3) & (2,5). Please help me, I am so lost! thanks.
--------------------
it's a lower case m.
It is the "steepness" of the line in the graph. Level, or horizontal, is a slope of zero. It's parallel to the x-axis, and "flat."
The slope, m, is the change in y divided by the change in x.
For those 2 points, it's
(5-3)/(2-1)
= 2/1
m = 2
--------
It's positive, so it increases to the right. y increases 2 for each x increase of 1.
