Question 180257
<font face="Times New Roman" size="+2">

Use the Pythagorean Theorem for both of these problems. The sides of the dining room or the width and height of the space for the TV are sides <i>a</i> and <i>b</i> of a right triangle and you want to find the length of the hypotenuse, <i>c</i>, so:

*[tex \Large \text{          } \math c = sqrt{a^2 + b^2}]

Just plug in the numbers and do the arithmetic -- use your calculator -- and for the TV question, round DOWN to the nearest inch. If you round up, then the TV you get would be a little bit to big.
