Question 179999
I am having some trouble with quadratic formulas, could you please help me with this problem? x^2-1/2x+1/2=0 This is what I have so far: A=1 B=-1/2 C=1/2 x=1/2+/-(radical sign)-1/2^2-4(1)(1/2) (all over)2 x=1/2+/-(radical sign)1/4-2 (all over) 2 x=1/2+/-(radical sign)-7/4 (all over 2) x=1/2+/-2(radical sign)-7 (all over) 2 and that's as far as I got. Can you help me? Thanks a ton,
Heather

YOU HAVE LIKELY SOLVED THIS PROBLEM ALSO, HEATHER, BUT THIS MIGHT BE A SLIGHTLY EASIER WAY(I DON'T LIKE TO DEAL IN FRACTIONS):
{{{x^2-(1/2)x+1/2=0}}} multiply each term by 2
{{{2x^2-x+1=0}}}
solve using the quadratic formula:
{{{x = (-b +- sqrt( b^2-4*a*c ))/(2*a) }}}
{{{x = (1 +- sqrt( (-1)^2-4*2*1 ))/(2*2) }}}=
{{{x = (1 +- sqrt( 1-8 ))/(4) }}}=
{{{x = (1 +- sqrt(-7 ))/(4) }}}=
{{{x = (1 +- (i)sqrt(7 ))/(4) }}}=
{{{x = ((1/4) +- (1/4)(i)sqrt(7 ))}}}=

THAT SHOULD BE IT BUT NOW WE'LL TRY IT YOUR WAY
{{{x^2-(1/2)x+1=0}}}
{{{x = (-b +- sqrt( b^2-4*a*c ))/(2*a) }}} =
{{{x = ((1/2) +- sqrt((-1/2)^2-4*1*(1/2) ))/(2*1) }}} =
{{{x = ((1/2) +- sqrt(((1/4)-2)))/(2)}}}=
{{{x = ((1/2) +- sqrt(((-7/4))))/(2) }}}=
{{{x = ((1/2) +- (1/2)sqrt(-7))/(2) }}}=
{{{x = ((1/2) +- (1/2)(i)sqrt(7))/(2) }}}=
{{{x = ((1/4) +- (1/4)(i)sqrt(7))}}}=

And it comes out the same--

GOOD WORK, HEATHER!!!!!!!-----PTAYLOR
