Question 179493
Let {{{b}}}= the price of a book
Let {{{m}}}= the price of a magazine
given:
(1) {{{4b + 3m = 145}}}
(2) {{{2b + 5m = 125}}}
Multiply (2) by {{{2}}} and subtract
(1) from (2)
(2) {{{4b + 10m = 250}}}
(1) {{{-4b - 3m = -145}}}
{{{7m = 105}}}
{{{m = 15}}}
And from (2)
(2) {{{2b + 5*15 = 125}}}
{{{2b = 125 - 75}}}
{{{2b = 50}}}
{{{b = 25}}}
The magazines are 15 cents each and the books
are 25 cents each
check:
(1) {{{4b + 3m = 145}}}
{{{4*25 + 3*15 = 145}}}
{{{100 + 45 = 145}}}
{{{145 = 145}}}
OK
