Question 178460
Michael has hired Sarah to build a square window frame out of wood that is 3/4" thick. The dimensions need to be 4'31/4" square. If Sarah cuts the two sides of the square to be 4'31/4" long, how long should she cut the top and bottom pieces to fit between these two sides?
--------------
If the sides are cut to the dimension of the square, the top and bottom will have to be longer than the side pieces.
If they are inside the side pieces, the vertical dimension will be 51.25" minus twice the wood thickness.
The top and bottom pieces will have to be 1.5" longer than the dimension of the square.
51.25 + 1.5 = 52.75", or 4' 4 3/4"
This is not a well posed problem.
