Question 175454
I had a flat tire after biking 3/4 of the way home. I walked the rest of the way home. If my walking time was twice my biking time, how many times faster is my biking speed than my walking speed?
:
Let 4 = the total distance, then
 1 = distance walked
and
 3 = distance biked
:
Let t = biking time
then
2t = walking time
:
Let m = number of times biking speed is over the walking time
:
Write a speed equation: speed = {{{dist/time}}}
:
bike speed = m * walking speed
{{{3/t}}} = m{{{(1/2t)}}}
{{{3/t}}} = {{{(m/2t)}}}
cross multiply
mt = 3*2t
mt = 6t
divide both sides by t
m = 6 times the walking speed = the biking speed
