Question 175280
June, an owner of a coffee stand, marked down the price of a latte between 7am and 8 am from $2/cup. If she grossed $98.69 from the latte sale and we know that she never sells a latte for less than a dollar, how many lattes did she sell between 7am and 8 am. Explain your reasoning.
:
Since the price is between $1 and $2, it has to be between 49 and 98 cups
:
The cost of the latte has to produce an integer number of cups
:
Use this equation to find the number of cups (n) that produce a cost with no fractional cents
c = 98.69/n
Use a calc:
n has to be an odd number, start with n = 51, 53, (you know it's not a multiple of 5) 57, 59, etc. When you reach n=71, cost = $1.39 all other values have fractional cents
:
She sold 71 cups at $1.39. (71*1.39 = 98.69)
