The degree is another way to say exponent, which also means power.
All three words mean the same thing. 

Q1: a to the second power b to the second power c

a^2(b^2)(c)...the degree here is 2 because it is the biggest exponent.

Q2: 1/2 m to the third power 

Here we have [(1/2)(m)]^3...the degree here is 3.  By the way, we can also write

[(1/2)(m)]^3 like this (m/2)^3...the both mean the same thing.


Q3: 2x...the degree here is 1
