Question 173001
Let {{{c(x)}}}= cost of tee-shirts
Let {{{m(x)}}}= money made selling tee-shirts
{{{c(x) = 5x}}}dollars
{{{m(x) = 9.5x}}}dollars
Let {{{p(x) = m(x) - c(x)}}} where {{{p(x)}}} is profit
{{{p(x) = 9.5x - 5x}}}
{{{p(x) = 4.5x}}}
This is read: {{{p}}} as a function of {{{x}}} equals {{{4.5x}}}
This is a direct variation, since if {{{x}}} increases 1% or
any percent, {{{p(x)}}} increases the same percent
----------
x  --  p(x)
-----------
1  --  4.5
2  --  9
3  --  13.5
Notice that when {{{x}}} went from 2 to 3 it increased 50%
and p(x) went from 9 to 13.5, also increasing 50%
