The problem is not from a text book it is a homework sheet from my instructor; please graph the linear equation for y=-2

This is a linear equation, meaning its graph is a straight line.  You need only 2 points, then draw a line thru them.
In this case, y = -2 for every value of x.  Pick 2 values of x, plot the points and draw the line.
For example, (0,-2) and (5,-2), or (20,-2).
You'll get a line parallel to the x-axis, 2 units below it.
