The formula is ax^2+bx+c, a is not equal to 1.....the problem is 2a^2-32-12a. The solution I get is 2(a^2-16-6a) then I am stuck. Thank you so much for your time

What do you want to do?  You didn't say.

It can be factored:
2(a^2-16-6a)
=2(a^2-6a-16)
= 2(a-8)*(a+2)
