Question 164432
{{{-6p - 5 = -9 + 8p}}}
It would look a lot simpler if
there were not all those minus signs.
Multiply both sides of the equation by {{{-1}}}
{{{-1*(-6p - 5) = -1*(-9 + 8p)}}}
{{{6p + 5 = 9 - 8p}}}
Now add {{{8p}}} to both sides
{{{8p + 6p + 5 = 9 - 8p + 8p}}}
{{{14p + 5 = 9}}}
Subtract {{{5}}} from both sides
{{{14p + 5 - 5 = 9 - 5}}}
{{{14p = 4}}}
Divide both sides by {{{14}}}
{{{p = 4/14}}}
{{{p = 2/7}}} answer
Now I can check the answer
{{{-6p - 5 = -9 + 8p}}}
{{{-6*(2/7) - 5 = -9 + 8*(2/7)}}}
Multiply both sides by {{{7}}}
{{{-6*2 - 5*7 = -9*7 + 8*2}}}
{{{-12 - 35 = -63 + 16}}}
{{{-47 = -47}}}
OK
