Question 149807
The owner of a baseball team had a stadium built such that the outfield fence was the same distance from home plate at all points. About how many acres did the fair area of the baseball field cover ?
(1 acre = 43,560 square feet)
There is a drawing of the field and the length of each side is 350 ft
The book says the answer to this problem is 2.2.
---------------
The baseball field covers one-fourth of a circle with radius = 350 ft.
-----------------
Area = (1/4)(pi)r^2
Area = (1/4)(pi)*350^2 = (1/4)384845.1001 = 96211.275sq. ft.
----------------
Dividing by 43,560 you get 2.208... acres
