Question 21795
<pre><font size = 3>Solve.
2(x-3)=5x+9

Use distributive property to remove parentheses:
 2x - 6 = 5x + 9

Add +6 to both sides
 2x - 6 = 5x + 9
    + 6      + 6
-----------------
 2x     = 5x + 15

Add -5x to both sides:
 2x     = 5x + 15
-5x      -5x
-----------------
-3x     =      15

Divide both sides by -3
-3x/-3  =      15/-3
     x  = -5

-------------------------

|2x+9| < 3

Learn the two rules:
If B is a positive number, then
1. |A| < B can be written  " -B < A < +B ".
2. |A| > B can be writter " A < -B OR A > +B ".

           |2x+9| < 3 can be written
       -3 < 2x+9 < 3

Add -9 to all three "sides"
       -3 < 2x+9 < 3
       -9     -9  -9
      ---------------
      -12 < 2x   < -6

Divide all three sides by 2
       -6 <  x   < -3
