Question 143779
I don't understand how to slove this problem 3/2(x+8)=6x
What is the value of x?

First, let's multiply each side by 2 to get rid of the fraction. When we do this, we get:

3(x+8)=12x Now, let's get rid of the parens(distributive law)

3x+24=12x Next, we'll subtract 3x from each side
3x-3x+24=12x-3x collect like terms

24=9x or
x=24/9=8/3-----------------ans

CK
3/2(8/3+8)=6(8/3)
3/2(8/3+24/3)=48/3  (note: 8 is 24/3)

3/2(32/3)=16  the 3's cancel

32/2=16
16=16

Hope this helps---ptaylor
