Question 141796
Okay, let "x"=smaller number, and
"y"= larger number
Also, x + y =152 right?
We get y =152-x   ---------mark eqn 1
Now there's a condition, that four times the smaller number is subtracted from the larger one and the result is 12. To show,
y-4x = 12,  ----------- mark eqn 2
We substitute "y" in eqn 1 to eqn 2:
152-x-4x=12
5x=152-12
x=28, the smaller number
For "y" go back eqn 1, y=152-28
y=124, the larger number
In doubt? we go back eqn 2,
124-(4)(28)=12
124-112=12
12=12,  cool!
Thank you,
