Question 139203
 I understand and can figure out that 1/3(s+6)=3 and that 's' is -3 (I think) but what I don't get is 2/3(x18)=-6. I DON'T GET IT!!! What's the answer and how do I get it? Please help!My teacher tried to help with a diffrent problem, 2/3x=12 with 'x'being 18.
-----------------
Let's look at the three equations you mentioned:
1st: (1/3)(x+6) = 3
Multiply both sides by 3 to get-------
x+6 = 9
Subtract 6 from both sides to get-----
x = 3
================================
2nd: (2/3)(x18)= -6
Multiply both sides by (3/2) to get---------
x18 = -9
Divide both sides by 18 to get------------
x = -1/2
-------------------
(2/3)x = 12
Multiply both sides by (3/2) to get:
x = 18
