Question 136939
A car rental company has two rental rates. Rate 1 is $42 per day plus $.14 per mile. Rate 2 is $84 per day plus $.07 per mile. If you plan to rent for one day how many miles would you need to drive to pay less by taking Rate 2?
-----------------------------
Rate 1: cost = 42 + 0.14x
Rate 2: cost = 84 + 0.07x
------------------------------
INEQUALITY:
Rate 2 < Rate 1
84+0.07x < 42 +0.14x
42 < 0.07x
x > 700 miles
-------------
Rate2 will be less than Rate 1 if you drive more than 700 miles.
