Question 999342:
Hey guys this question is still boggling my mind :) You see I have a test coming up but I dont understand this question. Please help!!!
Write the equation of the line passing through point (4, -1) and perpendicular to the line whose equation is 2 x - y - 7 = 0.
y = -1/2x + 1
y = -1/2 x - 1
y = 2 x + 1
y = 2 x - 1
Thank you so very much

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Perpendicular lines have slopes that are negative reciprocals.
Change to slope-intercept form to get the slope of the given line.
2x-y-7=0
y=2x-7
So the slope of the given line is m=2.
Then find the slope of the perpendicular line,
m%5B1%5D%2Am%5B2%5D=-1
2%2Am%5B2%5D=-1
m%5B2%5D=-1%2F2
Then use the point-slope form of a line,
y-%28-1%29=-%281%2F2%29%28x-4%29
y%2B1=-%281%2F2%29x%2B2
y=-%281%2F2%29x%2B1
