Question 998804: So I have a basic question about slope intercept. This is an equation in my book that I'm not following (I understand how to go about solving the question but not how the signs work)
This example in the book is called 'Solving a System Linear Equations:
to graph each equation, write the equation in slope intercept form.
-2y = -x-2
divide all those by -2 and we get
y=1/2x+1
what I don't understand is how 2 divided by -2 equals positive one in the answer? I thought we simple changed the sign to + because of y=mx+b but in another equation
-x+3y=-6
(after dividing all by 3)
the answer is y= 1/3x-2
I thought it ould have been +2?
why is are the answers to these slope intercept question sometimes + and sometimes - in the answers?
