Question 998069: Bob is driving to florida for the winter. He divides the trip into three days.
The entire trip takes 20 hours, and he drives 3 hours longer the second day than the first, and on the third day he drives 3 hours less than double the first. How long did he drive each day? Answer by fractalier(6550) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let's call the number of hours he drives on the first day x.
Then the second day he drives x + 3.
The third day he drives 2x - 3.
Now add those up...
x + x + 3 + 2x - 3 = 20
4x = 20
x = 5
x + 3 = 8
2x - 3 = 7
5, 8, 7 hours each day.
