Question 996919: Suppose 85 people took the final exam in a math class. If 17 people got an A on the final exam, what fraction of the students did not get an A on the exam? Write your answer in lowest terms.
I divided 85/17 and got 5. Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source):
that means that 85 - 17 = 68 people did not get an A.
the fraction of people who did not get an A is equal to the number of people who did not get an A divided by the total number of people who took the exam.
that fraction is 68 / 85 = 4 / 5
finding the greatest common denominator was tricky because you had to go all the way up to 17 to find it.
